The addition to mechanical contractor J.F. Ahern’s Fond du Lac headquarters is three stories, 58,000 square feet and was completed in late spring of 2007. The new facility has the capacity to support an additional 165 office employees.
LEED certification was pursued, implementing many environmentally friendly elements into the building’s construction. Features of the facility include extensive use of daylighting to reduce the need for electric lighting; a CFC-free, high efficiency HVAC system; a building envelope that is at least 20 percent more efficient than the code requires; and a unique rain water harvesting system that uses ‘gray water’ from rain as a source to flush toilets and urinals.
