C.D. Smith Construction provided construction management services for the addition and remodel of the Fond du Lac County Jail. The construction consisted of approximately 28,500 square feet of office remodeling and 41,000 square feet of new jail construction. The major renovation included the remodeling of offices, the addition of a training room, and updating the jail’s security system. The new addition to the jail more than doubled its capacity, from 149 beds to over 300 beds.
Sequencing was the major issue for the project. The county was required to maintain the operation of the existing jail facility during construction. The site constraints were also an issue. The facility is located along Highway 175 in downtown Fond du Lac. Only the parking lane along the south side of the existing jail could be utilized for staging.
